Panthers Bring It, But Swayman and Bruins Escape with the W
SUNRISE — The Florida Panthers controlled the play throughout Saturday’s rivalry game with the Boston Bruins yet could not find a way to win this one.
Boston ended a six-game winless streak by sticking around long enough to pounce when it got the chance in a 4-3 overtime win against the Panthers.
The Bruins took the lead four different times on the Panthers, and beat Florida for the first time in three tries this season.
David Pastrnak scored twice for the Bruins — including the game-winner with 1.2 seconds left in OT. This came after Sam Reinhart tied it with 1.8 seconds left in regulation with his second goal of the game.
Evan Rodrigues also scored for Florida; Sergei Bobrovsky made 14 saves including a pair of breakaways on Pastrnak midway through the third to keep it a 3-2 game.
Jeremy Swayman turned out to be the big difference for the Bruins as he stopped 40 shots in the win.
Florida took 111 shot attempts in the game; Boston had 39.
NOTES: BRUINS @ PANTHERS
- Pastrnak has six goals in 2025 — one better than Jordan Staal and Matthew Knies for most among all players this New Year.
- Rodrigues scored his first goal since Dec. 5 in Philadelphia, a drought of 15 games.
- Boston went eight games without a power-play goal before Morgan Geekie made it 1-0 in the first.
- The Panthers played without defenseman Aaron Ekblad for the second time in the past three games with a suspected hand/wrist injury. Toby Bjornfot got in for Florida.
HOW THEY SCORED
- Bruins 1, Panthers 0 (6:02 1st PP): Mason Lohrei’s shot from the point deflects off Niko Mikkola and ends up with Morgan Geekie who backhands it past Sergei Bobrovsky.
- Panthers 1, Bruins 1 (15:31 1st): Evan Rodrigues gets his first goal in over a month, flipping a shot from Uvis Balinskis over the glove of Jeremy Swayman not long after a power play came to a close.
- Bruins 2, Panthers 1 (16:11 2nd): David Pastrnak charges the net and pops a pass from Geekie through. Florida was outshooting the Bruins 26-10 at the time.
- Panthers 2, Bruins 2 (0:43 3rd): Sasha Barkov drives the net with the puck and sends a pass across the goal line to a waiting Sam Reinhart to tie it.
- Bruins 3, Panthers 2 (2:06 3rd): Oliver Wahlstrom picks up a loose puck near the mouth of the goal and sweeps it underneath Bobrovsky to give Boston its third lead of the day.
- Panthers 3, Bruins 3 (19:58 3rd): The Panthers get their first 6-on-5 goal of the season, Reinhart floating one over the head of Swayman to force OT.
- Bruins 4, Panthers 3 (4:58 OT PP): Pastrnak rifles one off of Reinhart’s stick and that’s that.

So frustrating how certain people have a tendency to be irresponsible with their sticks at the absolute worst time. It is almost predictable
