FORT LAUDERDALE — Injuries have been overwhelming for the Florida Panthers this season but they recently got some good news in that both Brad Marchand and Sam Reinhart will not need surgery.

That does not mean they will be returning to the lineup for tonight’s game against the Boston Bruins.

Or any game for the rest of the season.

On Tuesday, Paul Maurice told FHN neither player would be back this season due to their various injuries.

The two were leading the Panthers in scoring when they were taken out of the lineup.

Marchand is currently second on the team with 27 goals and third with 54 points; Reinhart leads the Panthers in goals (29), assists (32), and points (61).

Sam Bennett is second on the team in scoring with 56 points and may end up the team-leader if he plays in the final eight games.

Marchand, who was traded to the Panthers from the Bruins last March, has been dealing with lingering issues from past hip, sports hernia, and groin surgeries he underwent while with Boston.

In 2024, Marchand has his second surgery on his sports hernia and groin; in 2022, Marchand had extensive surgery on both hips.

The Panthers shut Marchand down not long after the trade deadline last month, his final game coming on March 6 against Detroit.

Even though Marchand played for Team Canada at the Olympic Games, it was obvious he was bothered by his injuries in the weeks leading up to the Panthers putting him on the shelf.

Marchand has been visiting numerous doctors and having his previous scans and MRIs compared to recent ones to determine a course of care.

Maurice said it has been determined that Marchand will not need surgery right now, although there is a possibility that could be a necessity in the future.

The Panthers placed Marchand on long-term injured reserve March 17 to allow Seth Jones to be activated and return to the lineup.

Marchand is eligible to come off LTIR tonight against the Bruins although he has not been spotted on the ice the past few weeks.

”They think three weeks will settle it down,’’ Maurice said. “Surgery is very invasive and intense, so without it, he will be able to get back to full training.’’

Reinhart has been dealing with an issue in his foot that has been dogging him for some time.

There was a thought a few weeks ago that surgery may be required, but Maurice said that has been ruled out.

“It’s not an issue until it becomes one,’’ Maurice said, adding that Reinhart is doing light workouts but nothing too strenuous.

“He’s walking around,’’ Maurice said. “They think in a month it will be fine.’’
