Florida Panthers
Flyers Keep Pushing, Rally to Beat Florida Panthers in Third

The Panthers took a quick two-goal lead in Philadelphia on Monday night but found out what a lot of teams already know: The Flyers do not quit.
That does not mean the Flyers win a lot.
But they certainly do not give up.
Monday, their persistence paid off.
Noah Cates scored his second goal of the third period with 5:51 remaining giving the Flyers a 4-3 comeback win against the Panthers.
Florida had been 16-0 when leading after two periods. Philadelphia is 6-15-1 when trailing after 40 minutes.
The Panthers opened the scoring 7:59 in on Sam Reinhart’s fifth shorthanded goal of the season. Reinhart added a power-play goal in the third.
Uvis Balinskis made it 2-0 just 1:35 later, and it looked like the Panthers were going to cruise out of Philly with an easy win.
The Flyers made life a little harder.
Philadelphia tied the score at 2 early in the third on a power-play goal from Cates before Reinhart gave Florida the lead back on a power-play goal of his own.
Morgan Frost tied it at 5:59 of the third on, you guess it, a power-play goal.
Philadelphia ended the game with 27 blocked shots.
NOTES: PANTHERS @ FLYERS
- Reinhart his NHL-leading fifth shorthanded goal and the 10th with the Panthers to pass Pavel Bure for fourth-most in franchise history. Reinhart joined Mike Richards as the second player in the past 20 years to score five or more shorthanded goals in consecutive seasons.
- This was Reinhart’s third game with both a shorthanded and power-play goal as a member of the Panthers — giving him the franchise record. Sasha Barkov and Bure each did it twice. He is the first to do it twice in the same season having done it in Boston on Oct. 14.
HOW THEY SCORED
- Panthers 1, Flyers 0 (7:59 1st SH): Sam Reinhart picked up the puck with speed at the top of the Florida zone, charged in on Samuel Ersson — but fought his way around Travis Konecny before firing a sharp-angled shot from the goal line that went top corner.
- Panthers 2, Flyers 0 (9:34 1st): Uvis Balinskis gets his second of the season, skipping a wristshot beneath the pads of Ersson.
- Panthers 2, Flyers 1 (7:51 2nd): The Flyers get one off the rush, Ryan Poehling knocking one from the side of the net beyond the reach of Sergei Bobrovsky.
- Flyers 2, Panthers 2 (2:01 3rd PP): Noah Cates finds a rebound in the high slot and buries it.
- Panthers 3, Flyers 2 (3:34 3rd PP): Reinhart gets another goal off special teams, burying a Matthew Tkachuk pass from the right circle.
- Flyers 3, Panthers 3 (5:59 3rd PP): Morgan Frost bangs in a loose puck in front of the net to tie the score once more.
- Flyers 4, Panthers 3 (14:09 3rd): Cates comes strong on the breakaway and puts a backhanded shot past Bobrovsky.
