Red Wings at Panthers: How to Watch, Lines, Betting Odds

FORT LAUDERDALE — It’s not fantasy hockey, but the Florida Panthers will again have three of their top players on the same line tonight when they welcome in the Detroit Red Wings.
On Tuesday night, coach Paul Maurice put Sasha Barkov with Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Reinhart.
He says the trio will be back together tonight.
Reinhart will remain on the right side of Barkov as he has for much of the past two seasons; Tkachuk has slid over to the left side, a position he played a lot in Calgary but not as much since coming to the Panthers.
“It doesn’t matter,’’ Maurice said of where Reinhart and Tkachuk play, “because the two of them are so bright and they end up getting to the right spots.”

Maurice said he split up the second line of Tkachuk, Sam Bennett, and Carter Verhaeghe to “give them a different on-ice experience.’’
With Bennett not scoring a goal in his past 18 games, changing things up could get his game going a little bit.
At least that’s the hope.
Expect to see the Verhaeghe/Bennett/Tkachuk second line reunited down the road, perhaps even as tonight’s game against the Red Wings goes on, but at least to start, the Panthers top line looks drastically different with Tkachuk playing with Barkov and Reinhart.
“Sometimes you get into a rut when the game is played at a certain style,’’ Maurice said. “That line has been dominant for us for two years … we’ll probably go back to it at some point. All three needed time with different people.”
- Starting Goalies: Florida will go back with Sergei Bobrovsky tonight after Spencer Knight was terrific Tuesday night against New Jersey. The Red Wings are starting Cam Talbot. Alex Lyon is still working his way back from injury.
- How to Watch: ESPN will broadcast tonight’s game nationally. That means no local TV, or Panthers+.
- NHL Betting Odds: The Panthers are heavy favorites (-275) on the money line at the local book. To win with the Panthers, a $275 bet pays $100.
- Injury Update: Aaron Ekblad skated before the morning skate but will not play tonight. He will probably miss Saturday’s game against Anaheim as well. Maurice said he could play in Anaheim on Tuesday night.
